10% Non-Buffered Formalin – General Purpose Fixative
Product Overview
10% Non-Buffered Formalin is a widely used aqueous fixative solution containing approximately 4% formaldehyde by weight/volume. Unlike buffered formulations, this solution does not contain phosphate buffers, making it suitable for applications where non-buffered fixation is preferred or where buffering may interfere with downstream analysis.
This fixative is particularly useful for general tissue preservation, anatomical demonstration specimens, and non-critical histological preparations where extended storage or immunostaining is not required. The acidic nature of non-buffered formalin can produce crisper nuclear detail, although it may lead to increased tissue shrinkage or formalin pigment if used over long durations.
